I gave up on all Marvel about a year ago. What they did to Spider-Man was UNFORGIVABLE but I tried so very hard to forgive them but after 60 issues of the rape filled BND I gave up.

I didn't like the concept of OMD but I liked how it was executed, though I haven't read many ASM issues after that either. The latest Spidey comics I read were the three Fear Itself tie-ins and I thought they were brilliant.

Do webcomics count for this? If so, The Order of the Stick, from just a few seconds ago.

If not, an old Animaniacs issue a relative had and gave to me because they didn't want it.

Wait a second...
Sorry, must adjust my mind.  I was still thinking of the comic in the terms of how amazing I thought it was before I read it.
Now don't get me wrong, I still like it now, but I mean I wouldn't think you were crazy just for not liking it.

At least I think I like it...
I should really read it again.

Uhhh, lemme check my Wednesday folder....Penny Arcade.

Also, yes, I have a Webcomics folder on my toolbar with sub-folders in it for every day so I know which comics to check for updates  :-[ Yeah, nerdy, but I follow a bunch of of them.

Venom #10 and #11 finally arrived, and they were completely brilliant; I'm loving the new direction this series is heading. Also found out today that starting from next week's issue, Remender is writing Secret Avengers and Venom is being introduced in #23.

I'm just a little bit into Dark Phoenix.

Don't know anything about the X-Men, but it's bearable. Hopefully it'll engage me some more tomorrow.

Did you know that it took a year and a half to do the art for Extremis?

Okay, I just got and read #12 but it was the symbiote that influenced him to do it. I'm pretty sure he'll just get back with her after he gets it back under control again.

We're getting off topic, but it's not as if any mods are reading this anyway.  ;D

Finished Dark Phoenix. Took ages; I swear those issues were all double-sized.

I watched all three X-Men movies for basic knowledge of the X-Men characters and conventions, though I preferred this to the movies. The first half of the book was a bit of a drag but it got better when the X-Men attacked the Hellfire Club. I actually found the characters quite likeable by the end and the deathmatch at the end was fun. ^_^

X-Men 2 & 3, y u no as good as graphic novel!?

Venom #13.

It's a start of an event which spans 13.1-13.4 and concludes in #14. Because the event takes place only in Venom's issues, his screentime is shared with X-23, General Ross and Ghost Rider so it kind of sucks.

Artist Tony Moore was back, though. That's always good.

Actually, I am reading through this.

I was just testing you.

Secret Avengers 22 and Venom 13.1.

Secret Avengers was alright, Remender's second issue so he was just basically setting up his new roster. Venom will be joining in next month's issue so I hope it improves with him.

Venom 13.1 was dissapointing. It was the first issue not to be written by Remender and the whole Circle of Four event is kind of bland and uninteresting, the only interesting part being the dynamic between Venom/Flash and General Ross. The art was good, though. The next two issues won't be written by Remender either, so I'm not going to get my hopes up, but he's coming back for the last two issues of the event, 13.4 and 14 and then continues from then onwards.

Also, Tony Moore's back again doing the art for 14. He returned for 13 as well. So excited to see some more of his work. Wish he would return as the main artist again.

The Ultimates: Super-Human.

The characters sucked.

Captain America being a giant douchebag (e.g. kicking a helpless Bruce Banner in the face), Thor being an extreme hippy, Pym beating up Wasp. And there were too many outdated pop culture references for my liking.

Oh, and horny, rapey Hulk. Not even going to go there.

Yesterday I finished my readthrough of Kid Radd (http://kidradd.muddasheep.com/kidradd_guillaume/). It's actually quite good, especially for a sprite comic.

Of course, it helps that it's an all-original partially animated sprite comic.

lol, you mean that underdeveloped mary-sue, Eddie Brock?

Can't vouch for whatever they've done to Venom in the last ten years or so, but the current one is great. He's got the most depth I've seen from a Marvel comics character. He's conflicted. He's crippled but the Venom symbiote gives him freedom and power. It's tearing his life apart but he still needs it to survive, even knowing that it's evil and that it occasionally makes him do evil things. He has a very complex relationship with it.

And, you know, his dialogue isn't as hammy.

Shouldn't this be sticker like the rest of them?

Early in his series, Flash was only allowed to wear the symbiote for 42 hours before it started to bond, so it never got so monsterous and slimy and stuff. Eventually it does bond to him but it reverts to that black-ops state to keep Flash calm about using it.

When Flash gets stressed, emotional or aggravated Venom will grow bigger and stuff. Sometimes it's when Venom gets aggravated, such as when Flash and Spider-Man tried to save Betty at the same time or when Flash was blackmailed into stealing the Toxin symbiote.

I think you're thinking of him after Mcfarlane left. In issues 300, 315,316, and 317 Venom was one of the coolest and scariest villains Spider-Man's ever faced. He had this sly sense of humour and insanity about him that was just joyous to read about. And he would just go to Aunt May, as Eddie Brock, and help her do the wash JUST to screw with Pete. That takes balls.

Venom 17 and Secret Avengers 26.

Venom was awesome. It was the prologue of a six part arc starting next month.

Secret Avengers 26 was meh. It's a tie-in to the Avengers vs X-Men event. I hate Marvel for doing events like this every year. I hadn't a clue what was going on in this issue as I haven't been dishing out £3 per issue for the main event mini-series. Last issue it was Venom and Beast kicking butt as the Avengers fought the Descendants, and now Dark Phoenix is back? Wut. So glad Venom's ongoing series hasn't been dragged into this mess of an event.

Scarlet Spider 7 and Venom 20.

Venom was good, nice and dark. Venom snaps a guy's neck and then chops off the Fly's wings in front of his own mother.

SS 7 is my first Scarlet Spider book, and it's alright. I like the art, but I'm only reading it for Minimum Carnage later this year:

I also need to read Spider-Island as Venom and Scarlet Spider first met each other in that arc.

Battle Pope, by Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore.

It is how it sounds.

Quote
The book tells the tale of a hard drinking, womanizing Pope condemned by God for his own evil ways, who is called to action to save Saint Michael, with the help of Jesus H. Christ, becoming mankind's final hope in a world overrun by demons following the Rapture.

I Kill Giants.
Venom 28.

I Kill Giants was alright, but a bit predictable. At least

(click to show/hide)

The artwork was lovely.

So far I'm not digging Cunn's run on Venom. He's deviating from the militaristic approach on Remender's run by introducing obscure supervillains for Venom to fight. Too much action, not enough substance.

Silas' look for Venom is awesome, the way he blends expressions into the mask, but the rest of the characters look blocky and the the colours (though that may be the inker's fault) are too bright.

I wish they could get Marco Checchetto, who did the previous issue, to do some more issues. His style is the best suited for this series since Tony Moore's.

Fear itself: Deadpool

It was good, but half was it was about the fearsome four. (Howard the duck, she hulk, night hawk and frankenstiens monster) I seem some of the marvel charm was lost because i had no idea who they were, but there was a cameo from the fantastic four (Spidey, wolverien, hulk and ghost rider.) But yeah, prefered DP's story, especially since it was written by the guy who does Dr. McNinja.

Venom 37.

Was disappointed that Declan Shalvey left, but this new guy's art is incredible. It's not as clean and sometimes the colours can get too rich and messy, but it looks nice most of the time. Also, Jack O' Lantern's back!

Bunn's also proven himself capable of writing Flash/Venom just as much as Remender did. His first two story arcs were pretty poor character-wise, but the last arc was brilliant.

I just read Planet Hulk, and wow. I've heard so much about it but never bought it because I thought it would just be the Hulk fighting gladitorial matches for 10+ issues. It's actually an epic story of him working his way to the top with a fully fleshed out world and great characters. Might read World War Hulk now.

I've been putting off the two final issues of Venom for weeks now, and I kind of wish I didn't read them at all. It was prematurely cancelled so a lot of stuff that had been building up for the past six months haven't had any payoff. Bunn did what he could to tie up loose ends, but it's just a very disappointing way for the series to go. The artwork was terrible too (but Lee Loughbridge's colours are as great as ever).

Flash Thompson as Venom is joining the Guardians of the Galaxy next year, but it's by Brian Michael Bendis so I'm not really interested. He'll probably be written out of that book anyway and join the likes of X-23 in comic book purgatory.

The original BONE comics, I seriously believe these are the best comics ever, theres lots of funny comedy mostly based off Quiche however the suspense is also incredibly emotional and it's very sad also, the backstories of the characters are huge and there tons of twists in the book. You also never know who the boss enemy is until the very end. Good luck reading it.
