« on: January 22, 2018, 02:14:18 PM »
Looks like there will be a new (and proper, one can hope) effort made to bring the entire series to American readers.

Demon Road / American Monsters: SPOILER TOPIC
« on: August 04, 2016, 08:54:30 AM »
Since the ARC copies of American Monsters are out now, I figured a topic might be handy.

I read it yesterday - all in one evening, which is unusual for me these days - and my short, spoiler-free verdict is that I liked it a LOT better than Desolation; most of the issues I had with Desolation were not there; the pacing was pretty good, we're back to just Amber's POV, there aren't legions of irritating, same-ish, pointless new characters.

It felt more rushed and a lot less polished than Demon Road (not sure how much of that, if any, is due to my reading an ARC) but overall, I wasn't bored and it was closer in feeling to DR than Desolation.

I was not happy with certain parts of the ending - objectively, had this been another book with other characters, I wouldn't really have issues with it as I think it made enough narrative sense and all; just that subjectively, I was Not Happy - but anyway, objectively speaking, it tied things up well enough to be a workable ending. Whether it's to anyone's personal taste or not .. that's another matter.

Basically .. not a perfect book by any means. I liked - but didn't love - Demon Road; I was bored and irritated by most of Desolation; American Monsters sits somewhere in the middle there, although in the better end of middle. Worth reading to anyone who wasn't completely put off by Desolation, but not one that will answer all your questions, probably. (Well, depending on the questions.)

News / Derek "Planning Out Next Series": Skulduggery Pleasant X
« on: July 08, 2016, 06:22:01 AM »
The forum relocation seems to have wiped out almost everything to do with Demon Road, but do not fret, especially if you're one of the people who haven't really been sucked into the Demon Road series .... Derek Landy is already planning out his next series, now that American Monsters is getting close to release.

Busy planning out my next series. Oh dear GOD I can't wait to start writing.

I promised myself I'd write a standalone book after Demon Road ended. A book with no sequels. Ah, bliss.

But a part of me knew. It just KNEW I'd just go straight into another series. Because apparently I love pressure.

I reckon we're a month or so away from revealing the title.

You're not even gonna get the TINIEST of hints until the end of next month! Probably.

(*Note: all the above was said in late June, so "next month" and "a month away" should be referring to July.)

News / Armageddon Outta Here Paperback: "Two Brand New Stories"
« on: December 03, 2014, 02:49:52 PM »
It would seem that the paperback release of Armageddon Outta Here (release date is 29 January 2015 according to Amazon) will include not only the Theatre of Shadows short story, but also two brand new short stories:

Quote from: Derek Landy
Finished rewriting Theatre of Shadows to make it good enough to be included in the Armageddon paperback, as well as two brand new stories.

Source.

There's also this:

Got all of them sent off on Sunday night, which has allowed me to focus on the new book for the first time in months.

So, I have finally written that long-awaited (well, by me, anyway) Bentley make-out fic. For those who are not in the know, "the Bentley make-out" is a long-running joke between Derek, Moonie and me, which was - I think - actually started by Derek ages ago, with him sorta-kinda-jokingly "promising" us Valduggery makeouts on the bonnet of the Bentley.

Anyway, now that the series is over, someone actually had to write something. So I did. ;D

Completely gratuitous and self-indulgent. Contains TDOTL spoilers. M-rated but anything and everything is only hinted at.

Skulduggery Pleasant / Loose Ends after the Series [SPOILERS FOR TDOTL]
« on: September 02, 2014, 07:11:19 AM »
I am not entirely sure whether to put this here or in the books forum, but anyway, I think the topic of "so, which questions / things did you feel were left unanswered after the final book and how do you feel about those" deserves its own thread, as it sort of encompasses the entire series, not just the final book.

I'm probably going to think of more but some of the biggest loose ends for me that I'd actually want an answer for (if not in the book, then maybe from Derek, eventually), would be these...

PLEASE DO NOT CLICK ANY OF THOSE SPOILER BOXES IF YOU HAVEN'T READ TDOTL AND DON'T WANT SPOILERS.
