The Books / Re: Skulduggery Pleasant: Resurrection (SPOILER TOPIC)

I got that feeling too. I think it's because Derek has a much more solid idea of how he wants this series to pan out because he added in a number of things that are obviously supposed to come back into later books (The First Wave in America, why Skulduggery left the City Guard etc) whereas in the original phase he seemed to have an overarching story but didn't have the details planned out.
Thank you for putting it into words :D.
Question, is Valduggery officially considered canon or was the "I love you" at the end in a "I-love-you-but-not-like-that" or an actual declaration of romantic love between them? I took it as the former but looking through this thread I saw different opinions so what do you guys think?

Okay, I don't have much time so I'll try and keep this relatively quick.

Overall, I enjoyed the book. It's distinctively different from the previous phase, but I can see what Derek's going for with this.

The main predictions for future books that I've formulated are;

1. Omen is definitely going to end up being the chosen one. Derek's spent WAY too much time emphasising how Auger is the chosen one - it only makes sense that it's actually Omen. They're twins, and twins often get mixed up in the first few days after birth. So Omen will actually be the first born, which will probably prompt a whole "nature vs nurture" discussion about why Auger was so apt at being a hero - if you grow up being told you're an unstoppable hero who's destined to save the world then that's how you'll act.

I was thinking the same while reading but after I've finished I don't feel like that's something Derek would do, perhaps he would tease us throughout phase 2 so that we continue to expect that but eventually just allow Auger to remain the chosen one. Derek's always been one, in my opinion, for the anticlimactic but more realistic type of ending although he always manages to sneak in some tiny detail that was overlooked and make it result in catastrophic consequences.

As for the whole "Howarts-esque" theme of Corrival Academy, I think that JK has influenced the writing world so greatly that it's near impossible to have a remote school, badass teachers, teenagers as well as magic and not have some similarity to Hogwarts.

Overall, I enjoyed the book, it was a welcome window into the world of SP and how it's changed since we last saw it. Perhaps it's because I rushed through it, I have this nagging sense that a lot of details included just... weren't necessary. I didn't particularly enjoy the subplot with Sebastian and the whole hollow man affair thing, I just didn't get it tbh. Another qualm I had with the book was it just felt really staged. It just felt that everything, even the obstacles, feel into place way too easily. To me it just didn't have that "it's-skulduggery-you-never-know-what's-going-to-happen" vibe for me. Like I said, I did rush through it so perhaps a more "through" reread will change my perspective on it.

Thank you so much Fabi!

I'm not necessarily arguing that there is an entirely different way of giving birth (although I'm a strong advocate for forehead-birthing) I'm simply suggesting that, the same way magic augments a sorcerer's life-span, it could augment female sorcerer's bodies to have a limitless supply of eggs or simply not need them at all.

Back again.

Hey all!
Just wanted to say hiya, no better time to rejoin the forums than in the middle of exams right?
Hope all of you have been well ;)
Can't wait to immerse myself into this wonderful community again.

See you around!  :)

To be fair, we're not even sure how reproduction occurs within the world of sorcerers. This thread has assumed it is the same as we know it but I could argue that all babies within the sorcerer world is birthed out of the male's forehead and, theoretically, you wouldn't be able to prove me wrong due to the lack of canon evidence provided by Derek.

We haven't (correct me if I'm wrong) seen anybody pregnant in the books other than Val's mother, who didn't practice magic so we basically have no idea of how, or if, magic affects the body internally. Sure it may not be as dramatic as forehead-birthing but perhaps female sorcerers even require fertilised eggs to fall pregnant.
(this is my first post in a while, hi)

I would say that if we were to be talking about Cast recording albums/theatrical soundtracks, hands down, it would be Hamilton.
I just find it incredible how one man (Lin-Manuel) has brought a man's story back to life in today's day and age. Not only that, but he has shared it with such a huge audience that spans across the world. I just think it's pretty astounding  :D

One thing that I'm eager to discover is, what is Val holding? It isn't her magic (her magic is white) unless it is a new facet of it that we haven't seen yet. My bet is that it's an artifact that the book is going to be centred around, perhaps it being some type of resurrection stone? I suppose only time will tell. :D
