The Books / Re: Skulduggery Pleasant: Midnight [SPOILER TOPIC]
« on: August 28, 2018, 11:15:22 PM »
The thing I most appreciated in this book was the plot twist: Lord Vile and Abyssinia's son Caisson.
I really don't know how the story will continue but this book left me with big expectations about the next ones, I hope to see an intense development in this story specially some flashbacks about Abyssinia's, Caisson's and Skulduggery's past.
I'm excited about the idea of Lord Vile's real identity being revealed as well and how Skulduggery's friends (specially China, who's already suspicious) would react.
I want to see more of Vex and Rue in the next books (I don't recall them being killed in DOTL) and I want to see their reaction once Lord Vile's identity is found out.
I loved Abyssinia, she's funny and approachable, which isn't very common in a SP villain, I sympathized a lot with her and her grief.

One thing I disliked was Omen and Never's part, I don't know if it's because I'm still used to the first 9 books of the series, so these new characters and the whole Corrival Academy just seem boring, out of place and unsettling to me.
I don't like the idea of Auger being the chosen one either, the prophecy and Auger just seem like nonsense to me, it kinda reminds me of Harry Potter and I feel like it's driving the new books away from the original SP spirit.

Cadaverous Gant was a good adversary, however I feel like their encounter at the Midnight hotel took forever, I also couldn't focus on how it operated, and Flanery is just... I don't know... I would like mortal politics to be left out of the big scheme.

All in all, I think it was a good book, mostly due to this huge plot twist, it was still a lot better than Resurrection, which deeply disappointed me, but I feel that, appart from the deep connection between Skul and Val and the secrets they share, the rest of the story is becoming more cliché and losing the SP spirit (just my opinion).

I found Resurrection very disappointing too...and boring, however Midnight surprised me by the positive, all those secrets being revealed made me anxious for the next one  :D

I agree, that part really did make me uncomfortable, it looked a lot like Derek was pushing an agenda and trying to force his opinions on the fanbase, I also think the whole refugee and POTUS situation has a political purpose, he should calm down a little.

Watched Split yesterday, found it a great movie but a bit disappointing at the same time, as I was expecting more action and the ending was rather confusing...
