I meant why make him an Ascendant and sacrifice the power area of development.

So basically, he would be a better NPC, agreed.

What's the purpose of him? Why did you make him? To fight the Grand Mage and then never use again? For backstory? Just to have a strong character? While for backstory it might be okay I think making a character solely to fight the Grand Mage or jsut because is pointless, and I think I'm the best person so say that (lol).

Backstory and development for the GM, and maybe a sub-plot with the Sanc / an anti-Sanctuary thing.

Ascended characters, in our forum, are typically only plausible if they are an NPC; ergo you only use them reactively or a theoretical character, (see some of Kii's characters).

To add on this, Ascendants are the very top of the food chain.

Even if they have other aspects to develop, the fact that they are so damn powerful means that things will revolve around them. I shall admit, Dominias (And I only just remembered the name similarity with Max's character) was ridiculously fun to create and use, however, because of his power, he cannot be used often. A fundamental part of his character needed to be something that gives him reason to not solve every issue and do what he pleases.

As an alternative, perhaps make it his goal to find and seal his true name. As a potential extra, and this is NOT saying it's a guaranteed "Sure, do this", it might be possible to have him achieve an Ascended state for short periods of time, using some object or trick. That would need to be well made and balanced before being accepted, though.

So the general consensus is that Ascendants are too difficult to balance. He doesn't really have to be ascended to fulfill the role you've given him.

Either you change the role of the character to fit the magic, or you change the magic to fit the character.

How about having his true name suppressed in some form?

That's called Excessive Immersion Metamorphosis, or EIM. When someone subconsciously discovers their true name, however the Excessive Immersion Reaction is rare and incredibly difficult to enter.

Which is like what Kii said, only more subconsciously.
I was thinking that he could have lost/sealed/stolen etc his true name when getting that new body or in that dimension. Or that with what Gideon and Kii said.

That would be interesting to see, and it would definitely damp his powers (provided you make his power dampened..).
